You will just have to study a lot of new IT certification candidates convey dissatisfaction at the fact that, for numerous programs, they can register to take their exams by using either Pearson VUE or Thomson Prometric. However, what is the difference between these two IT certification exam registrars, this post will give you the relevant facts and a personal opinion as to which is better.

With reference to IT certification registration and delivery, there exist two chief providers:

Pearson Virtual University Enterprises (VUE): http://pearsonvue.com

Thomson Prometric: http://www.prometric.com

There is no dissimilarity between VUE and Prometric centers at all. Some vendors have selected a designated exam provider, while others co-exist in both exam providers. At present, VUE is the exclusive exam provider for Cisco, Oracle, Citrix, American College, and VMWare. At present, Prometric is the exclusive exam provider for Microsoft, Apple, IBM, and Nortel. Some vendors who use both VUE and Prometric as exam providers are CompTIA, Adobe, Novell, and EXIN.

Exams are developed by the vendors as a result there are no differences in the exams for vendors who co-exist across both testing providers.

However, you have the liberty to decide a testing provider on an exam-by-exam basis provided that the exam vendor is not exclusive with one testing provider. Taking a certification exam at one testing provider does not force you to take other exams with that identical provider.

They both give the same versions of the tests. There is no difference. It just depends on which testing centers are in your area. If they are both in your area, then it does not subject.

<ins datetime="2010-06-01T16:21:12+00:00"></ins>

<ins datetime="2010-06-01T16:21:12+00:00"></ins>

However, I would recommend once you pick one testing center for Microsoft, you should stick with them, since you have got MCP account setup. I have heard stories of people taking one test with VUE, and another with Prometric and end up having two MCP IDs with one test taken in each, instead on just one MCP ID with two tests taken.

You can register to take your exam by either calling or visiting the VUE or Prometric Web site. Testing centers are affiliated with VUE, Prometric, or both.

Now it’s time for my opinion. In my 9 years of working in IT, I have been affiliated with a significant number of training centers/IT certification exam providers. Therefore, I have seen how Prometric and VUE work from both the test-taker’s point of view as well as from the exam administrator’s point of view.

Almost without exception, I have had far better fortune dealing with VUE instead of I have with Prometric. As far as the reliability of their exam engine is concern, VUE has it all over Prometric, in my opinion. The only differences you will find is the quality of chairs, computers, desks, lighting, cooling, etc. The test pool is the same.

One inconvenience I have experienced with taking IT certification exams with both Prometric and VUE is that you have to keep up two separate profiles. Therefore, keeping your exam history organized can occasionally become difficult. I found VUE is a lot easier to register.

<ins datetime="2010-06-01T16:14:18+00:00"></ins><ins datetime="2010-06-01T16:14:18+00:00"></ins>
What Is a Voucher

A voucher is simply a way of paying for your exam. It’s a number that has an expiration date and is redeemable for one exam at a testing center. Our exam vouchers are sold at discount prices, which means that you are paying much less than the full cost of the exam when you pay with a voucher.

<ins datetime="2010-06-01T16:14:18+00:00"></ins><ins datetime="2010-06-01T16:14:18+00:00"></ins>
What’s the difference between Prometric and VUE vouchers?

Prometric and VUE are two exam companies and both have testing centers worldwide. Some organizations’ exams, such as Cisco and Microsoft, are delivered only by Prometric or only by VUE. Other exams are delivered by both Prometric and VUE. The exams themselves are exactly the same, regardless of which testing company delivers them.

Our Prometric exam vouchers are only redeemable with Prometric and likewise our VUE exam vouchers are only redeemable with VUE. If you could use a Prometric or a VUE voucher for your exam, find the Prometric or VUE testing center closest to you by using our Prometric Testing Center Locator and our VUE Testing Center Locator to help choose what type of voucher you need.

How can I order test vouchers

New customers may order vouchers through our online store or by phone. Return customers have the option of participating in our Voucher Order Direct (VOD) program. To place a VOD order, simply send an email requesting the voucher and quantity that you desire and we will bill you through your most recent payment method. Please be sure to include “VOD” in the email subject line.

<ins datetime="2010-06-01T16:14:18+00:00"></ins><ins datetime="2010-06-01T16:14:18+00:00"></ins>
How soon can you expect my exam vouchers?

Exam vouchers will be processed and shipped within 1 business day or less. Usually, vouchers are emailed to you within a few minutes of ordering during regular business hours. For online orders, you will receive an immediate email message confirming that we have received your order.

<ins datetime="2010-06-01T16:14:18+00:00"></ins><ins datetime="2010-06-01T16:14:18+00:00"></ins>
Are the exam vouchers transferable?

Yes, exam vouchers are only sent to the purchaser and are not assigned to any one person. You can give a voucher to your students or employees so that they can take their exams. You have no need for expense reports because you make one payment to us.

<ins datetime="2010-06-01T16:13:54+00:00"></ins><ins datetime="2010-06-01T16:13:54+00:00"></ins>

Can you use one voucher for more than one exam?

No, a voucher only permits you to take one exam only. It does not cover retakes if you do not pass the exam. However, if the vouchers explicitly state they have a free retake, you can go for it.

The mode attribute of the customErrors element specifies whether custom errors are enabled, disabled, or shown only to remote clients. Setting this attribute to RemoteOnly specifies that the custom errors are shown only to remote clients.

Use the attribute in the Web.config file of the application to deny access to a resource. The users attribute of the element specifies the user names that are denied access to a resource.

Use the customErrors element to provide information about custom error messages for an ASP.NET application. The mode attribute of the customErrors element specifies whether custom errors are enabled, disabled, or shown only to remote clients.

Use the customErrors element to provide information about custom error messages for ASP.NET applications. The mode attribute of the customErrors element specifies whether custom errors are enabled, disabled, or shown only to remote clients.

A user required necessary permission for remote debugging on a remote computer.

The wwp.exe process is associated with application pools in IIS. If a user has more than one application pool, he will run more than one instance of the wwp.exe process running.

The IScriptControl interface is used to represent methods that ASP.NET server controls have to implement to depict ECMAScript (JavaScript) resources in AJAX enabled applications.

Trace.axd is an Http Handler that can be used to view the trace details for an application. It is resides in the application’s root directory.

The healthMonitoring element is an ASP.NET Settings Schema. It is used to configure an application for health monitoring. It consists of attributes, child elements, and parent elements.

The trace element is an ASP.NET Settings Schema. It is used to configure the ASP.NET code tracing service that controls how trace results are assembled, stored, and displayed.

The element of the Web.config file provides information about custom error messages for ASP.NET applications. The mode attribute of the element is used to specify whether custom errors are enabled, disabled, or shown only to remote clients.

The pages element is an ASP.NET Settings Schema. It is used to define page specific configuration settings globally.

The Duration attribute of the @ OutputCache directive specifies the amount of time (in seconds) for which a control is cached. The VaryByParam attribute allows developers to vary the output cache depending on a GET query string or form POST parameters.

The ErrorPage attribute of the @ Page directive is used to set the URL if an unhandled exception occurs. Sam can set this target to the home page.

The TraceMode attribute of the @ Page directive specifies the order in which the trace information is to be displayed. It can be sorted either by the Category column (SortByCategory) or by time column (SortByTime).

Tracing can be enabled for an application by using the trace element. The settings of the Web.config file overrides the settings of the Machine.config file.

The AutoPostBack property works properly only if a browser is set to allow scripting. By default, a browser is set to allow scripting, but some users disable it for security reasons.

Tracing can be enabled or disabled for a page by using the Trace attribute of the @ Page directive.

Tracing can be enabled for an application by using the trace element in the application’s Web.config file.

The enabled attribute of the trace element specifies whether or not tracing is enabled for an application. By default, this attribute is set to false. Setting this attribute to true will enable tracing for the entire application.

Smart navigation is best used with ASP.NET pages that require frequent postbacks.

The EnableEventValidation attribute of the @ Page directive is used to validate .aspx page events in postback requests and callback scenarios.

The EnableViewState attribute of the @ Page directive is set to true, which indicates that the view state is maintained across page requests.

The pageOutput attribute specifies whether or not trace output is rendered at the end of each page of an application.

The requestLimit attribute specifies the number of trace requests to be stored on the server. The trace is automatically disabled if the limit is reached.

Add a Page directive to the Page.aspx in order to make it work properly.

A new IIS application can be created for hosting WCF services. Alternatively, a WCF service can be deployed into an existing ASP.NET application. Before deploying a WCF service implementation to the IIS or ASP.NET application, you must create a .svc file for the WCF service. Only then, the WCF service can be configured.

Web applications run inside a worker process that is assigned to an application pool. If the application pool is not started yet, the worker process does not run for that application pool.

Use Windows System Monitor to identify spikes inside a component and to get notification if the average time to process messages reaches a certain level.

Use System Monitor and Microsoft Operations Manager to collect information from the custom performance counters inside a component when the component is running on a production server.

Profiling and instrument application components are the best options to improve the application performance when the application is consuming lots of memory resulting in slow operation.

The system.web element is an ASP.NET Settings Schema. It is used to specify the root element for the ASP.NET configuration section and contains configuration elements.

The compilation Element is an ASP.NET Settings Schema. It is used to configure all compilation settings that ASP.NET utilizes to compile applications. In .NET Framework, the compilers child element of the compilation element is deprecated in support of the compilers element of the system.codeDom section.

Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) is a set of extensions to the Windows Driver Model that provides an operating system interface through which instrumented components provide information and notification.

Enable tracing for a page when the page has been deployed to a remote server to view execution time of page events.

The performance counter mechanism is used to monitor the performance of all the Web applications during the execution period.

JavaScript Object Notation (JSON), pronounced “Jason”, is a lightweight computer data interchange format. It is a text-based, human-readable format for representing simple data structures and associative arrays (called objects).

The Bind method is normally used with input controls such as the TextBox control rendered by a GridView row in edit mode. As soon as the data-bound control constructs these input controls as element of its own rendering, it can get the input values.

The SelectedIndex property of the DropDownList class is used to get or set the index of the selected item in the DropDownList control.

The TreeView is a data-bound control that displays hierarchical data such as a table of contents or a file directory in a tree-like structure format.

It is important to provide an id because it gives identification for the data value entered into the field by the user.

The OnItemDataBound method of the DataGrid control is used to raise the ItemDataBound event that occurs after a data item is bound to the control.

The AutoGenerateColumns property is used to get or set a value that indicates whether or not the BoundColumns object are automatically created and displayed in the DataGrid control for each field in a data source.

The SqlDataReader class avoids creating unnecessary objects or making unnecessary copies of data. Hence, it provides optimal performance.

The public DropDownList List; statement will make a List available for Page.aspx. Public variables and objects can be accessed from all other procedures and functions in all the modules in the same project.

The EditCommand event of the DataGrid control occurs when users click the Edit button for a DataGrid item.

The EditItemIndex property of the DataGrid control specifies the index of an item in the DataGrid control to edit. It is used to programmatically control which item is being edited.

The args.Item.ItemIndex statement specifies the index of the selected item in the DataGrid control.

The FormView control displays a single data record from a data source in a table. It displays only user-defined templates instead of row fields.

The Init event is raised after a control is initialized. For a dynamically added user control to take part in post back data processing and validation, you must load the control during the Init event.

Web server controls are used for advanced functionality and a more consistent programming model than HTML server controls.

An ASP.NET application that is configured receives the request for the image from the Web browser and generates the image for each Web request.

The INamingContainer interface is used to identify a container control that generates a new ID namespace inside a Page object’s control hierarchy. It is a simple marker interface.

A RegularExpressionValidator control is used to check whether or not the value entered into a form field matches the pattern specified by a regular expression.

The InitialValue property of a RequiredFieldValidator control is used to specify the initial value of the input control that is associated with the RequiredFieldValidator control.

The ClientValidationFunction property of the CustomValidator class specifies the name of the custom client-side script function used for validation.

The ServerValidate event for a CustomValidator control is raised when validation is performed on the server.

A user can display all the validation error messages on a Web page in a message box by setting the ShowMessageBox property of the ValidationSummary control to True. If the user does not want the validation summary to be displayed on the Web page, the ValidationSummary property of the ValidationSummary control should be set to False.

The RequiredFieldValidator validation control is used to check whether an input control contains a value. It is generally used to validate a TextBox control.

The validation error message is displayed on a Web page in a message box by setting the ShowMessageBox property of the ValidationSummary control to true. By setting the ShowSummary property of the ValidationSummary control to false, the validation summary will not be displayed on the Web page.

A Dynamic layout of a Web page can potentially change the layout of the page when an error message appears on it.

The FileUpload class is used to display a TextBox control and a Browse Button that allows a user to select a file to upload to the Web server. The user provides the file to upload by entering the full path of the file on the local computer (for e.g. C:\MyFiles\CommonFiles\Test.txt) in the TextBox.

The HttpRequest.Params collection contains all HTML form fields that are rendered by a page.

The CreateUserWizard control is a login control that collects user information such as a user name, a password, an e-mail address, etc. This information can also be used for user authentication and for recovery of users’ passwords. The CreateUserWizard control also creates a new user account and adds the account to the ASP.NET membership system.

The Page.PreviousPage property is used to get the page that transferred control to the current page. The FindControl method is used to search the current naming container for the specified server control.

The PassThrough property renders the text as it is. It includes HTML markup and script.

Several RadioButton controls on a Web form do not automatically interact with each other. In order to let several RadioButtons on a Web form interact with each other, they must be logically placed in a group by using the GroupName property of each control.

.NET is multiple languages but single platform i.e. Microsoft, whereas Java is single language but multiple platform i.e. Java can run on any platform.

The Microsoft® .NET Platform provides all of the tools and technologies that you need to build distributed Web applications. It exposes a language independent, consistent programming model across all tiers of an application while providing seamless interoperability with, and easy migration from, existing technologies. The .NET Platform fully supports the Internet’s platformneutral, standards-based technologies, including Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), Extensible Markup Language (XML), and SOAP. C# is a new language specifically designed for building .NET applications. As a developer, you will find it useful to understand the rationale and features that provide the foundation for the .NET Platform before you start writing C# code.

The .NET Framework is based on a new Common Language Runtime. The CLR provides a common set of services for projects built in Microsoft Visual Studio® .NET, regardless of the language. These services provide key building blocks for applications of any type, across all application tiers. Microsoft Visual Basic®, Microsoft Visual C++®, and other Microsoft programming languages have been enhanced to take advantage of these services. Microsoft Visual J#™ .NET has been developed for Java-language developers who want to build applications and services using the .NET Framework. Third-party languages that are written for the .NET Platform also have access to the same services. The .NET Framework is explained in greater detail later in this module.

The Common Language Runtime (CLR) is the virtual machine component of the .NET Framework. All .NET programs execute under the administration of the CLR, promising assured properties and behaviors in the areas of memory management, security, and exception handling.

Language Independence

The .NET Framework introduces a Common Type System (CTS). It specifically defines all possible datatypes and programming constructs supported by the CLR and how they might or might not interact with each other.

Simplified Deployment

The .NET Framework comprises design features and tools that assist manage the installation of computer software to make sure that it does not get in the way with previously installed software, and that it conforms to security requirements.

Microsoft’s commercial implementations of the framework cover Windows, Windows CE, and the Xbox 360. In addition, Microsoft submits the specifications for the Common Language Infrastructure (which includes the core class libraries, Common Type System, and the Common Intermediate Language), the C# language, and the C++/CLI language to both ECMA and the ISO, making them available as open standards. This composes it achievable for third parties to create compatible implementations of the framework and its languages on other platforms.

Don’t spend too much time on any one question. Do your best and then move on.

Answers the easiest questions first, but be sure to go back to those questions you skipped.

Do not change your answers unless you are very uncertain about your first answer choice.

Try to answer every question. Make the most intelligent guess you can.

After you have been through all of the questions once, go back and find questions you have some knowledge about and eliminate choices that you know are incorrect.Â

If you can eliminate two wrong answers, your chance of choosing the right answer is greater.

Don’t guess blindly, but if you have time to think about the best answer choice, make it!

If you finish early, check to make sure you have answered all questions.

Find key words or phrases in the question that will help you choose the correct answer.

Make sure you understand what the question is asking.Â

Be sure you are responding to the question that is being asked.

If any time remains, spend it on those questions about which you know nothing or almost nothing.Â

As you go back through, do not change all answers.Â

Remember:Â Your first guess is usually right.
