Memorial Day is the informal start of summer for folks in the United States. In celebration, we’ve intended a big party and you are invited! Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday that is observed on the very last Monday of May. It was formerly known as Decoration Day. This holiday commemorates U.S. men and women who died in military service for their country.
Four things support the world: the learning of the wise, the justice of the great, the prayers of the good, and the courage of the brave.
I have never been able to think of the day as one of mourning; I have never quite been able to feel that half-masted flags were suitable on Decoration Day. I have rather felt that the flag should be at the acme, because those whose dying we honour rejoiced in seeing it where their courage placed it. We honour them in a joyous, thankful, glorious commemoration of what they did.
